krugers and kayaks

Saturday was a mandated mental health day. Because work has me all over Oregon and Washington these days, I’ve been craving some casual time at home to walk around my neighborhood and make food for the freezer. It was relaxing and rejuvenating, and now I have some ready-to-roll pizza dough prepped for future dinnertime awesomeness. Remember, when in doughy doubt use Mandy’s perfected recipe here!

And since today (Sunday) began sunny with the promise of 70+ degree weather, Eli and I ventured up highway 30 to Sauvie Island for a trip through Kruger’s farm and corn maze. It turns out that a super sunny morning is not the most exciting time of day to work through sea of corn. But hey, at least we got to play with 20 pound cabbage heads!

The real scene-stealer of the day was our spontaneous trip to Scappoose Bay Kayaks, a business that recently merged with Eli’s employer. The dudes running the joint were just the greatest and let us take a couple boats out, free of charge. Now my lips are totally sunburned and my arms, wrists and even fingers are sore. According to Myfitness.com, kayaking for three hours burns a few hundred calories – yes!
