So Weigh-in Wednesday made me a little sad yesterday, so I held off on posting, hoping today would prove more report-worthy. In all honesty, I’ve been bouncing like a maniac around the 160s. Sometimes I’m at 162, and sometimes I’m at 167. Annoying yes, but at least the flux is consistent. Anyway, I’m back to 165 today, my new norm apparently.
So yeah, I’ve been a little, uh, preoccupied this week. And my healthy lifestyle eating habits have taken a backseat to other social activities. Thanks to the gym for keeping me relatively on track and mentally stable through the craziness.
Breezy’s trip flew by in a flash of food, drink, Nike gear and basketball playoff games.
I am very excited to announce that I stayed the same again this week. There’s been a lot of ‘celebrating’ (code word for drinking and eating) around here lately, and I’m just happy to be able to participate while maintaining my weight loss.
As for my exercise regimen, Chrisanthi’s spin classes have been killing me in real good way this week (ever heard of Tabata training?), and it’s amazing to notice my muscular and cardiovascular strength improve daily. Occasionally I have to get cardio done on my own, and for those days I’m kicking my playlist off with “Dancing on my Own” by Robyn. I am begging you to do the same; you will not be sorry!
And yes, Breezy has landed in Portland. Currently she’s napping on the couch next to me; this girl needs some serious rest. I made her a post-flight lunch BLT with a side of chocolate milk.
And then I forced her to climb the Mt. Tabor stairs. She LOVED it! (Kidding.)
To make it up to her, I’m taking her to the most superfly sports bar in Portland to watch the NBA playoffs. Spirit of ’77 has free arcade basketball, so I’m anticipating favorable reviews from the munchkin.
Oh, and one more celebratory matter – Jamie, Will and Axel announced the arrival of Baby Gus yesterday! Congrats to the growing family; we’re sending love your way!
In addition to the choco-dipped strawberries, I also made some chicken salad bites for the birthday hors d’oeuvre spread.
Served on cucumber slices.
Thanks to the Nielsen women for my silver platter collection!
She’s been watching a lot of Mad Men lately… HOT!
Ty’s miracle dress; I may never return it!
Mix these ingredients together for the salad (it’s a crowd-pleaser and even better the next day):
4 cooked & diced boneless chicken breasts
1/3 cup dried cherries
1/2 cup diced celery
1/3 cup chopped and toasted pecans
2/3 cup diced apples
1/8 cup diced shallots
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoon buttermilk*
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
The loveliest lady of Borthwick Avenue is having a formal cocktail birthday party this evening.
And as my Mama would do, I dipped some strawberries in chocolate and put them on a silver platter to honor her.
Time to put on my (well, borrowed from Ty) dress and get silly!
I reunited with my old pup today! Her mama Catherine took me out for a wonderful happy hour here where we shared a salad, crab cakes and shrimp. There may or may not have been Chardonnay involved as well. Man, maybe Lucy’s on to something… Lake Oswego was stylin’ today! Beautiful lake views from the restaurant and [for her benefit] rustic family life in the woods on a creek. She can thank me later. 🙂
We were never very good at photoshoots.
No change on the scale this week. Blah.
I’m back at the coast tonight for the third time in a week; it’s lovely, don’t get me wrong, but I’m really looking forward to a break from my car.
I’m going to take a walk on the beach in a bit. And tomorrow I reunite with an old pal. Stay tuned for pics!
I have been in turbo overdrive crazy nonstop go go go mode since Friday. Lots to celebrate this weekend with Amanda’s birthday wine tasting trip, Sonny’s birthday potluck bbq and Baby John’s dedication at church. Add a trip to the coast (Oceanside, my very favorite!) for work yesterday and today and I’m feeling abundantly grateful for such a glorious and beautiful life. Have a peek…
It’s been a few days since I’ve stepped on the scale. Cindy, my health coach, recommended I stick to once a week. Eeeek, that sounds scary and out-of-control! Most likely I’ll check the scene tomorrow morning. Feeling strong and relatively in control tonight; hoping to see this feeling through to Wednesday Weigh-in.
For some reason, and I’ve been like this my entire life, I feel the need to rifle through the fridge and pantry EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. This is not an exaggeration. When I lived alone it was easier to manage because I was in complete control of what I brought in the house; now I have all sorts of tempting treats calling my name (seriously, I’m pretty sure they’re speaking to me right now) from the counter. Homemade apple pie or banana bread, anyone? (My wonderful housemates coincidentally are also wonderful bakers.)
Ok, my commitment this evening is to go to bed without going back into the kitchen. Altering small habits will lead to bigger lifestyle changes as well as my relationship with food.
Workout: Biked to the gym, 20 minute spin, Bodypump class, biked home. Feeling so strong and relaxed… food now would just interrupt this euphoria.
Big weekend coming up – wine tastings, theater, birthdays, Baby John’s dedication at church and a trip to the [warm] Coast on Sunday. Pictures soon, I promise!
So, what should I eat for breakfast tomorrow? 🙂
Well I’ve been dreading today; things were a little rough around here this weekend. Thanks to the lovelies who listened to me cry and whine!
I’m up three pounds this week, which is surprisingly better than I’d anticipated.
My relationship with food is in a rather unhealthy stage at the moment, and I’m trying to get a grip on it. Of all the things that freaked me out this weekend, my current lack of control was definitely the most concerning.
Since Monday I’ve felt stronger and more focused… definitely not back on top of my plan… but I think I’m getting there.
Anyone else have a “crazy” week?
Happy Birthday, Mom! Breezy and I look forward to seeing what the rest of this exciting decade holds for you and the places you’ll go! Time to cross a few more states off your list (so glad I was with you for this one):
I hope your day is filled with the most beautiful love. Here are some flowers for you in one of our favorite pictures from that trip:
And one more thing… yeah, uh, thanks for putting up with my drama queen’ing (it wasn’t pretty) this weekend. You’re setting an amazing example for what aging gracefully looks like; clearly I need to be taking better notes.
Dad better spoil you on behalf of all three of us today! Love you the most!
