Whoa, what a day. Just got back to the hotel room and it’s 4:30… at least Lucy and I have been on our walk already. Still need to hit up the hotel gym and plan a healthy dinner and finish up my work day. One thing at a time. First, we need to check in with the awesome ladies:
Sara in her super cute Grateful Apron!! —
And here’s a snack idea from Megan that I’ll be sure to get with as soon as I get home. Goat cheese and dates? Check and check. From Kitchen ala Meggo:
“Delicious and healthy snack tip: I bought a bunch of dates, then sliced them halfway open, removed the pit, and stuffed them w/ goat cheese. I made a dozen and then put them all in a tupperware in the fridge… whenever I want a nice sweet and savory snack, I can pop a few into the toaster oven (or regular oven if I’m already cooking din). Good source of fiber and protein and probably 30-40 calories per date, and they seem decadent.”
Ok, now for today……. Road food. I have a love hate relationship with eating on the road (and eating out in general). I LOVE food so much, that when I’m traveling, I want to eat the most and best of everything… especially when I have an expense account. In the old days I would go to dinner alone and order the following: Two glasses of wine, an appetizer, a salad, an entree and sometimes a dessert. Add an entire bread basket to that mix, and you have yourself a whole lot of weight gain in a short period of time. After three and a half years of this travel-heavy job, I think I’ve finally realized that I don’t need to splurge just because I’m on the road. Sure, that makes for a lot of Subway and Lean Cuisines in my hotel room, but it’s necessary if I’m going to make this a sustainable lifestyle.
5:45am, hotel restaurant, kind of wanting to die after a sleepless night:
The super tasty complimentary breakfast menu (yes, I’ve tried all of these over the years… except, of course, the cold cereal):
Alas, I ordered the cold cereal this morning (Raisin Bran. Doesn’t that milk look… well, milky? That’s because it’s half and half! What’s up with that?! Note to self: Request skim tomorrow. I’m such an amateur cold cereal orderer):
Lunch (eaten in the car, because otherwise I’d be eating in Subway with about 25 local high school students. No thanks):
Happiest travel partner:
Dinner plan: Soup from Safeway and maybe a salad from Subway?
